Color of the Year 2011 – Home Decorating Trends

Color is a powerful force in our lives, it can change a mood, symbolize the passing of time and even be an outward expression of our personal identities.

Don’t believe me…
Do you feel calm or energized in a brightly colored Citron Yellow room?
What era do you think of when I say Avocado Green or Harvest Gold?
What is your favourite color… and does it reflect your personality? Are you a powerful vibrant red or a calm tranquil blue?

For the most part color is a silent force in our lives, unless you spend your days immersed in it like I do, you probably don’t even give it a second thought!

So (geeky as it may sound) a couple of weeks ago I found myself wondering what the Pantone color of the year would be for 2011. I’m not sure how much psychology goes into the Pantone color selection but it seems to me that the color of the year almost always symbolizes our collective hopes, dreams an desires for the upcoming year.

So for 2011 Would it be something vibrant and racy to get our collective energy going again, or something calm and quiet to still our shaken nerves? Would it be warm and cozy, or cool and introspective?

Well yesterday my questions were answered when Pantone released it’s color of the year for 2011, Honeysuckle, lovely shade of pink!

Described in the press release as a courageous, confident, brave new color. I think Honeysuckle has a timeless vintage feel, it’s bright and cheery and speaks to me of simpler times.

And although I quite like the color, it may be a hard sell for most home interiors, particularly if there are boys in the house! (See what I mean about color being a powerful force color in our lives!)

So what do you think? Do you like the color? Would you use it to decorate your home?
