How to do IT: Creating a Family Photo Wall

Looking for an unconventional way to display family photos?  This fun photo arrangement jazzes up an otherwise plain wall and even creatively hides the thermostat!  Here’s how we did it:

.

.

We started off by creating paper templates for each size of frame that would be going in the arrangement and attaching them to the wall with masking tape. This enabled us to play around with the layout (many, many times) to get it just perfect before we started hammering in any nails.

Next, we started hanging each frame, leaving the other template pages intact so we could make minor adjustments accordingly.

Rather than just ignore the unsightly thermostat that was in the middle of the wall, we decided to turn it into part of the design by removing the glass from a small frame and placing it around the thermostat.

By keeping the frames in the same color, but varying the style and size, we created a look that is both casual and elegant, and the best part is that the asymmetrical arrangement enables us to add additional photos anytime without compromising the look.  Simply fabulous!
